Jerry Tacuri is a painter who explores personal experiences through figure, objects, light and color. Starting form realistic observation, he simplifies areas of light and shadows into geometric and angular shapes, using changes in value, color, and texture to build recognizable forms while experimenting with the possibilities of painting.
Tacuri is currently completing his BFA in Painting and Drawing, where his practice has developed through continued experimentation with realistic imagery and different painting techniques. His process often begin with observing and studying a subject before breaking its forms into simplified shapes and using sharp changes between light and dark rather then relying entirely on smooth blending. He works primarily with painting while experimenting with oil paint, acrylic paint, oil pastel, and watercolor to explore how different materials can change the surface, color, and texture of an image. Through this process, he continue to develop his technical skills and find ways to combine realism with more personal use of shape, color, and texture.
